Storm-ID Bio
A Study In Stripes and Duct Tape Hello and welcome to my humble abode here on storm-artists.net! I am, and have been for a fair bit of time, Storm-Artist's Head Gallery Moderator. This tends to confuse some, who assume from my title that I am the moderator of the Heads gallery, but this is not the case. I'm just in charge of the gallery moderation department, though I must admit being moderator of the Heads gallery would probably be much more exciting, what with the association with the movers and shakers of the French Revolution and all.
If you started reading this section out of boredom, you have my utmost sympathies. Boredom kills, so tear yourself away from the computer and go out into the real world and start making waves! I should note that you can also start making waves in your very own bathtub. Maybe a nice hot bath would be more satisfying than going out into the real world. Hmm... a nice hot bath... If you started reading this section to learn more about some guy calling himself [mirrin], then you shall not leave as disappointed as those who came here looking to learn more about ostriches or, perhaps, sea anemones. I can't help those people. They're on their own. As to me, I'm quite the tiger fanatic. I have tons of tiger pictures, Nation Geographic: The Tigers of the Snow on DVD, David Attenborough's The Life of Mammals (which has a nice tiger sequence) and a lovely porcelain tiger candy dish which is probably the finest decoration in my whole room. I'm also a duct tape addict. If you want proof of that, I have more than 36 hours of The Red Green Show on DVD (Red Green Stuffed and Mounted #1, #2, #5 and #6, Complete seasons #7 (1997), #8 (1998) and #9 (1999), Red Green: DVD, Red Green's We Can't Help It, We're Men and Red Green's Duct Tape Forever). If that's not enough proof, I actually a member of Possum Lodge, member # 689870 to be exact. Oh, and my favorite color of duct tape is silver. And I only associate with REAL duct tape... none of that 99 cent silver colored masking tape garbage! That stuff is lame! My favorite fictional character, I have to admit, is Krystal from the StarFox series of games. I don't really know why. I think it was her voice in StarFox Assault that got me hooked. Or maybe it's that just so wonderful suit she wears. I don't know. That's not to say I'm not a StarFox fan in general. I like Fox. In fact if you look at the stats on my save files for both Super Smash Brother Melee and Super Smash Brothers Brawl, you'd find that Fox is #1 in everything because I play him 95% of the time. But... I just find myself drawn to Krystal... ah... Krystal... Ahem... As to my other, more serious interests, I'm a history and military technology buff. Most of my books focus on World War II and Ancient Egypt. Lately, however, I've been getting into Ancient Roman and Greek history and literature as well as American Civil War history, technology and tactics. I also have quite a few books on more general history topics ranging from a biography of Benjamin Franklin to a book detailing the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge (The Great Bridge by David McCullough, awesome book... as are all of his works). In total, I have more than 100 history related books with a small smattering of literature thrown in for good measure. I'm also a big Tolkien fan and currently have all of his Middle Earth related works (Unfinished Tales, Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, The Children of Hurin) and will soon hopefully have the rest of his excellent writings. I, of course, have the complete Lord of the Rings films, extended editions. Well, I think that's enough of a text wall for my bio. If you need to contact me on either personal or official Storm-Artists gallery related business, you can send me a PM and I'll get respond as soon as possible. Farewell, and may the duct tape be with you! mirrin Featured artwork Latest artworks Getting Back Into Things May 6, 2008, 01:33:16
Mood: relieved![]() Volume 3, Number 12: May 5, 2008 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Getting Back Into Things ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, I think I'm finally well enough to get back into things here. - I've cleaned up my message center. - I've started a new community project. [link] - I've rewritten my bio to better reflect the crazed duct tape addict that I am. - I've made a poll about the bio. - And, here I am, writing a new journal entry... about something other than me being sick. Well, that's not to say that I'm feeling all that much better... a little better, but griping about my health shall have to wait for another journal entry. Oh, did I mention I've accomplished just a small tad of evil admineyness? Ah, the joys of Storm-Artists. Well, that's all for today. Next time, perhaps I shall gripe about widescreen monitors on laptops. They may seem neat, but they're actually more trouble than they're worth! mirrin Head Gallery Moderator mirrin@storm-artists.net Gallery or Gallery Moderation Questions or Concerns? PM me! Well, I've finally gotten around to rewriting my bio into something more useful and extensive. I'd like to know what those who dare to read it think. It's duct-tape-eriffic! It's pretty good. It's... average. It's not what I'd expect from a duct tape addict. It's excruciatingly horrid! What's a bio? Sorry, but I don't have time to read that 718 word monster! Emotive Expression: A Community Project Written by mirrin May 5, 2008, 10:27:31 PM Emotive Expression: A Community Project Emoticons are, well, icons of the internet age. They help us add emotive expression to otherwise dry and easily misinterpretable text. During a discussion with Darbysniper and Patty on a related topic, I got an idea and I shall now present it to you in the form of a new community project. The Project Visual Artists:. Create an image involving two individuals expressing emotions for one another with emoticons. These images can be of any medium, using any tools. The only caveat is that you can't use premade emotes and cut-and-paste them into the image. They must be self-painted/made. Authors: Write a dialog in which the characters use only emoticons to express themselves to one another. You'll have to use ascii (text) based emotes. This is due to the fact that site emotes are deactivated for uploaded text. [link] Submitting: When you submit an entry into this community project, it should go into the Storm-Artists -> Community Projects category. Also, make sure to add the word EmoteProject to the keywords. That will allow folks to view all project entries by using that one word in the search tool. For Everyone Not Making Entries: For those who aren't participating in this project by producing entries, you can still help out by viewing and commenting on entries. You can most easily view entries for this project by entering the keyword EmoteProject in the search field just below your account control panel (upper-right side of the screen). Everyone involved will greatly appreciated it! The Conclusion This community project will conclude in just over month, on June 15th. Then, all entries will be linked in a news post for all to see. Addenda Here's a couple of links to material involved in the discussion which inspired this project: A Journal by [darbysniper]: [link] An image of the project by [conorschild] (dA link): [link] More pics of the project: [link] Enjoy!
